Aquatic Therapy FAQs

  • Aquatic therapy offers the benefit of reduced gravity, which decompresses your joints resulting in less pain. The flow of water around the joints also provides hydrotherapy to reduce pain.

Aquatic therapy may be a great option for patients who:

Have difficulty completing land-based exercises and need to build up strength prior to a transition back to land-based PT

Have a higher fall risk due to limited mobility or issues with balance/coordination.

Need gait re-training (how you walk) under limited amounts of gravity.

Are post-surgical after orthopedic procedures, such as hip/knee/shoulder replacements and more.

Our underwater treadmill allows for the restoration of normal gait (how you walk) with and without support to re-train your muscles and joints before walking unsupported under the full force of gravity.

  • Both of our indoor pools are heated and kept at a constant temperature around 92 degrees.

  • Please bring a bathing suit and towel. We have bathrooms with showers that double as changing rooms.

  • Check out the information on this website or feel free to call our office with any additional questions.

    • Joint restrictions related to degenerative joint/disc disease of the spine

    • Disc herniations/Disc bulges

    Sciatica

    • Vertigo

    • Scoliosis

    • Worker’s Compensation & Personal Injuries

    …and more!

  • After reviewing your intake paperwork, we will discuss your chief complaint, medical history, family medical history, and lifestyle habits to determine if you are a good candidate for chiropractic care. Together we will review your goals and design a plan of treatment that will fit your needs.

If we decide chiropractic care is right for you, we will often treat you on the first visit, unless we determine that imaging is required prior to undergoing care. If chiropractic care is not the right fit for you, we will be sure to steer you in a direction that would be most appropriate for your condition.

  • • No, we do not have imaging services in the office.

    • If imaging is required, we provide a requisition form for you to obtain imaging at any UVM imaging center, and we can review the images and accompanying report digitally before your next visit.

  • • Manual adjustments are the most common treatment.

    • When clinically indicated or requested by the patient, gentle chiropractic care options such as low-force mobilizations, the use of an Activator (a tool used to deliver an impulse to the joint) or a pelvic drop piece integrated into the table (helps transmit force into joints so the doctor can use less manual force) are effective alternatives to traditional manual adjustments. Dr. Lauren also holds an Activator Advanced Proficiency Rating.

    • We frequently incorporate soft tissue mobilization techniques such as trigger point release, myofascial release, active release therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, Graston technique, and more.

    • Other therapies utilized include flexion-distraction, traction, ultrasound, laser therapy, and electrical stimulation.

Physical Therapy FAQs

  • New patients and follow-up visits are 60 minutes.

  • Your PT will review your intake paperwork and discuss your medical history. Then, using the findings from a physical examination and gait analysis (how you walk) and evaluating your current level of health, your PT will craft an individualized plan to ensure you achieve your health and functional goals together.

Some treatment is often rendered on the first visit to help you to feel better as soon as possible.
